When To Start Wedding Planning

So you have just got engaged – a massive congratulations to you both!

Now what?

‘When should I start my wedding planning?’ is a common question amongst most newly engaged couples. My advice is to step back, and take some time before rushing into planning – you should stop and enjoy being engaged! Take time to share your proposal story with others and celebrate your new engagement with your loved ones.

Once you’ve taken this time, it’s best to decide if you would like a long engagement or a short engagement. There is no right or wrong answer, it’s just whatever works for you as a couple.

You should take some time to consider what you envisage your wedding to be like – discover what you would both like to have on the day and if possible, do this without discussing ideas with others (more opinions can start to confuse things quite quickly!). Think about size, date and style to ensure you are both on the same page. These factors are a great starting point for the planning you’ll do in the future!

Discuss priorities for each of you and what is most important, this will help when deciding where your budget should be focused. One may have food as a priority but the other may see the location as more important, so decide on compromises you can make if necessary.
